I have been on the road all week in Eastern New Mexico and West Texas. I love the desert here. It is so beautiful. It’s hard to describe it all because there are so many things I have found to love.
One thing that really surprised me was the number of miles I could see lights from approaching towns. We were driving Tuesday night from Roswell NM to Portales NM. When we were about 25 miles from town, we came over a small rise and saw the lights from Portales. I looked at the GPS and it said we were 22 miles from our destination.
I thought it was weird because I didn’t think the lights we were seeing were the lights from Portales. I was wrong because they were. Beautifully clear skies and air.
Another thing I like is the weather. Unpredictable at best is how I would describe it. It was below freezing at night and warm during the day…until today. It snowed today. And then got hot. And was beautiful!!
I can’t wait till the day comes that I can revisit the places I see while on the road for work. I will not be rushed or trying to get somewhere. I just want to take my time.
The desert around here, and the city of Roswell in particular, is now on my re-visit list; scratched off of my “I want to go there before I die” list.
